Materials Engineer
1. Review new plans and make recommendations for material selection, based on design objectives such as strength, weight, thermal properties, appearance, cost, and other factors.
2. Conduct site inspections to gather additional data and intervening factors playing a role in the selection of materials, products, and/or systems.
3. Confer with Design Engineers, Project Architects, Seller and Manufacturers.
4. Prepare technical descriptions, drawings, illustrations, and step-by-step testing and inspection procedures.
5. Analyze product failure data and laboratory test results published by manufacturers and other entities to prepare special installation, inspection, maintenance and repairs recommendations and guidelines.
6. Oversee or supervise inspections of systems.
7. Compile publications and reports on material performance and evaluations on material deterioration.
8. Evaluate new projects and provide intelligence during bidding and planning processes.
9. Guide technical staff and educate installers and project engineers on materials properties.
Job Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in materials engineering plus five (5) years of experience are required, or in the alternative, a master’s degree in Materials Engineering plus 6 months of experience.
